MATRANS – Industrial Workshop on Functionally Graded Materials for Transport Applications

Dear friends,
I would like to draw your attention to the FP7 cooperative research project MATRANS on metal-ceramic graded composites (FGMs) for automotive and aerospace applications, in which we have been involved for the last three years. The target applications for MATRANS FGMs in automotive sector are valves and brake disks.

The MATRANS consortium is organizing a final dissemination event for the industry, the so-called MATRANS Industrial Workshop.
The Workshop venue is EADS facility in Ottobrunn n. Munich
The date/time: 23rd January 2013 (9:30-15:30).
Please find attached a draft Agenda of the Workshop.

It would be a pleasure if you could join us for this MATRANS Industrial Workshop.
If you wish to give a talk on research issues in the automotive/aerospace sector within the broad scope of MATRANS materials – we would be glad to include it in the final programme.

TU Vienna wins patent ranking of Austrian universities

Every year the Austrian Patent Office ranks the most innovative enterprises and universities throughout the country. In 2011, Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) heads the ranking of universities with 14 successful patent applications.
Also in comparison with Austria’s top enterprises, the result is impressive. TU Wien shares the 9th position together with Salzburger Aluminium AG and Sandvik AB. Top inventor once more was Siemens with 45 patents.
Also in terms of quality, the patents of TU Wien convinced the jury of the Austrian Patent Office’s new “Inventum” award. Dr. Eduard Doujak (Institute for Energy Systems and Thermodynamics) came in second for the invention of a sand removal equipment for hydro-electric power plants.
“This outstanding place is a strong indicator for the innovation power of Austria’s university research” says TU Wien’s Professor Johannes Fröhlich, vice president for research. “The granted patents are of both areas – applied and fundamental research. Therefore science forms the basic for new developments and promotes technology transfer into economy and society.”
„The department for research and transfer support at TU Wien is very proud of this result. But the credit is due to the inventors: Without their inventive talent and their willingness to co-operate, this success for TU Wien wouldn’t be possible.” says Eva Bartlmä, Head of the department.
